How to Overcome Self-Doubt and Step into Your God-given Power

Have you ever found yourself holding back from doing something you were passionate about because of self-doubt? Or perhaps you stopped short of your goal because you worried what others might think?  For me, putting myself “out there”, launching a new business at the age of 62 and writing my first coaching site blog, put me in a place of major self-doubt. But I pushed through and you can too!  Trust me, it’s easy to let that voice of doubt creep in, telling us we’re not good enough, not ready, or not….. (whatever). It often causes us to hunker down in our comfort zone, stay stuck with fear, and not challenging our self to try something new.

It can hold you back from seizing opportunities and sharing your ideas with the world. But here’s the truth: You can rise above Self-doubt.  Self-doubt does not define you. It doesn’t determine your possibilities or your worth. And it’s possible to overcome self-doubt, and to quiet that voice, stepping into the full potential of who you are meant to be.

There is nothing good that comes from staying small, dimming your light, or hushing that voice inside you that wants to be heard.  So today, my message to you will help you re-frame self-doubt into something very useful. And the good news is – it’s very simple yet powerful!

The next time you are doubting yourself or feeing anxious about the message you are delivering – perhaps it’s in a meeting or in a presentation you’re giving or in some type of performance, I want you to consider making it about serving others, and not about yourself.  I’m doing this today as I write this note to you! Instead of getting stuck in my own insecurities and fears, I’m considering who may read this? Who might get a valuable, tangible tool to take with them the next time they need it?

When we shift the focus from ourselves to the people we’re serving or the purpose we’re working toward, self-doubt begins to fade. Ask yourself, “What can I offer to others?” Then see if this removes some of the fear you’re holding onto. This mindset shift has been transformative to me, especially as a wedding photographer!

When we start thinking about the impact we can make, the lives we can touch, and the value we can provide, we silence that nagging voice of self-doubt. It’s no longer about us—it’s about something much bigger than us. It’s about service. Don’t wait until you think you have everything figured out and you’re going to deliver the perfect presentation and say all the right things – Just get out there NOW and share what you know and trust in yourself. You may not have all the answers but if you’re excited to serve people and you’ve prepared for whatever event you’re worried about, you’ll figure out the answers when you need to.

Take a leap of faith and use the mindset of serving others to overcome self-doubt and to unleash your super powers!
